Carolina Dock and Marine offers an apprenticeship program unlike any other. We provide on-the-job training, along with academic instruction (all paid for) in order to help you succeed in your career. We understand that a successful business stems from the people behind it. We are therefore committed to investing in our team in order to achieve the highest potential! We felt that the apprenticeship program was a necessary tool to implement not only to benefit the company, but most of all, to better the team. We pride ourselves in being industry leaders in quality and innovation which can only be accomplished with a highly trained workforce.
The confusion amongst most people, is the difference between an internship and an apprenticeship. An internship revolves around on-the-job training, while an apprenticeship is a “dual-training” program – focusing on occupational, as well as in-class components. Many internships are unpaid, while apprenticeships offer pay, along with salary increases dependent on the work complete. Apprenticeships usually focus on skilled trades (construction, manufacturing, technology, etc.) while internships are likely to focus on pre-professional roles (marketing, law, medicine, etc.). Apprenticeships serve as a win-win for a business because it leaves the business with the opportunity to build a strong workforce, while allowing an individual to become more knowledgeable and skilled in their field.
The length of the apprenticeship program at Carolina Dock and Marine consists of a 4-year course – allowing you to work at your own pace while implementing the skills you’ve learned in the field. The course load starts out with your basic math, measurements, safety, and tool identification, and later covers most things you need to be successful at Carolina Dock and Marine. Our team is very dedicated and passionate about what they do. They won’t hesitate to answer any questions you may have, and will provide you with all of the necessary tools/knowledge you’ll need to succeed along the way.
Your success, as well as ours, is dependent on your level of commitment to improve your skills. Our goal is that upon completion, you will have what it takes to progress into our leaders training, lead your own crew, and be in charge of your own projects. We also offer training opportunities for you to become certified as a Marine Captain, Diver, and Heavy Equipment Operator.
